A native Texan, April was born in Houston and raised in nearby Huntsville – home of Sam Houston, where the iconic Texas hero lived during his latter years, and where he is laid to rest.
This close proximity to the legendary Sam Houston created in April a love of Texas history and heritage, leading to her desire to share this history with visitors to the Houston area and the Lone Star State.
April has been entertaining visitors for more than twenty years, since graduating from the International Tour Management Institute in 1995 – upon which time she began leading escorted tours as a tour director in various regions of the U. S. as well as international destinations. April has led tours for large tour operator companies such as Tauck, Vantage, Collette, Mayflower, and Cosmos, and was chosen to lead a Texas familiarization tour for the National Tour Association. During the spring months, April travels to Washington, DC and Philadelphia as an on-site coordinator for WorldStrides, a student tour operator specializing in accredited educational programs.
Though fortunate to have traveled on all seven continents, April has never forgotten her Texas roots and where she comes from…Texas is where her heart is. She delights in “coming home” and sharing interesting facts and tidbits about the uniqueness of Houston and its surrounding areas. Local Houston experience includes having been a step-on guide for inbound travel groups, conventions, and cruises, along with meet-and-greet assignments, hospitality services, and incentive programs. You might even see April on Houston’s first-ever double decker bus tour, operated by Houston City Tours!
In support of tourism, April believes in “giving back” to help preserve our treasured national parks, historic sites, and points of interest in order that future generations may also benefit from the enjoyment of such places. To this end, April has been a volunteer participant in service projects for Tourism Cares, a nonprofit organization dedicated to this very effort. Additionally, April has been the recipient of the Take Pride in America service award issued by the U. S. Department of the Interior for her volunteer service in Yellowstone National Park.
April is a graduate of Texas A&M University, where she earned a B. A. in Communication and a Minor in Marketing. She is a certified member of the Professional Tour Guide Association of Houston and a licensed guide in Washington, DC, New York City, and Philadelphia.
